I received this question via email, and have replaced the identifying details with crosses for privacy:
“I consulted with Sh. xxxxx at xxxxx. He charged Rs. xxxxx for what he claimed was a complete horoscope analysis. However, despite spending a considerable amount of money and time traveling to meet him, I’m unsure whether he actually performed a complete horoscope analysis or merely paid lip service. Could you please explain how a genuine astrologer conducts such a reading?”
What Is the TRIPOD Concept in Astrology?
Without commenting on the merits of any individual astrologer, let me say this: for a truly complete horoscope analysis, the TRIPOD Concept in astrology is crucial. Tripod concept involves examination of horoscope from three different reference points - Lagna, Arudha Lagna and Grah Arudha. Superficial readings that ignore deeper frameworks like the TRIPOD Concept can mislead seekers — a common issue discussed in this article on the dangers of simplistic astrological interpretations.
We often pay substantial amounts to consult professional astrologers. In doing so, we also share our confidential birth data. Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to ask whether they are familiar with a fundamental principle I refer to as the TRIPOD Concept. The TRIPOD Concept is not a modern invention but is rooted deeply in Vedic astrology principles. Understanding this concept allows for a more structured and meaningful reading of one’s birth chart.
I’ve attempted to keep the language of this article as simple as possible. However, I apologize in advance for any unavoidable technical terms related to astrology.
No meaningful interpretation of horoscope is possible unless done through the TRIPOD concept
Is Your Horoscope Reading Really Complete?
Let’s explore these three critical reference points:
Why Lagna Reflects Objective Truth in Chart Analysis
1. Lagna – Before diving deeper, it’s important to understand the importance of Lagna in any complete horoscope analysis. Lagna is the point on the eastern horizon that rises with the Sun each day. It is also one of the most important markers among the astrological houses, often used as the primary anchor in chart analysis. It represents actual events, objective truth, and factual reality, devoid of emotional bias or value judgments.
For example, getting a job is an event — a concrete fact. Whether that job is considered ‘good’ or ‘bad’ is irrelevant from the standpoint of Lagna. Lagna concerns itself only with the reality of the event, not the perception of its quality. Therefore, when evaluating such events, Lagna must be used as the reference point.
Understanding the Social Lens: Arudha Lagna Explained
2. Arudha Lagna – This reference point reveals how society perceives an event that has occurred in our lives. Understanding the Arudha Lagna significance helps us interpret how external judgment or social feedback can influence our own sense of success or failure. The opinions of those who matter to us often influence how we feel and behave.
Returning to the example of Sneha: how does society view her job offer?
If there are malefic planetary combinations surrounding the Arudha Lagna, it indicates that society is unimpressed or dismissive of her achievement. Conversely, if benefic combinations are present, it suggests that society views the offer positively, perhaps even with admiration.
Naturally, the real-world analysis is far more nuanced, but I am simplifying it here for clarity.
How Grah Arudha Reveals Your Personal Response
3. Grah Arudha – To understand how a person internally experiences an event, we must grasp the Grah Arudha meaning in the context of astrology. This reference point reflects how the individual personally perceives or emotionally responds to the event.
Is Sneha happy or disappointed with the job offer? That depends on her expectations.
If Sneha had been struggling to find employment, this offer might feel like a blessing. In such a case, her horoscope would likely show favorable planetary influences and alignments from Grah Arudha during the relevant dashas or planetary periods.
On the other hand, if she was aiming for a better position than the one offered, the same event may feel underwhelming to her. Here, the chart would likely show malefic influences from the Grah Arudha.
Using All Three Pillars for Accurate Horoscope Analysis
Once again, no meaningful horoscope interpretation is possible without applying the TRIPOD Concept.
By using all three reference points — Lagna, Arudha Lagna, and Grah Arudha — we gain a holistic and multidimensional view of any event. This approach elevates birth chart interpretation beyond surface-level predictions, allowing astrologers and seekers to understand the event from internal, societal, and factual dimensions.
Complete Horoscope Analysis Begins with the Right Tools
Many wonder whether astrology can truly foresee events. That question is explored in depth in my other article, Is it possible to predict the future? However, Astrology is far far beyond the predictive realm. If an astrologer is unaware of the basic TRIPOD framework, it might be wise to reconsider investing in their services. After all, a meaningful astrology chart analysis must go beyond superficial predictions — it should reflect the depth that the TRIPOD Concept brings. We should not hesitate to ask astrologers whether they are aware of this foundational concept. If you're unsure what makes a reliable guide, explore the qualities of a good astrologer before making a decision. If you find your Astrologer unfamiliar with basic concepts, it may be wise to look elsewhere — perhaps even consider spending that time and money with family and friends instead of worrying unnecessarily about the future.
